WALL-E: A Lost World

I wonder what life will be like in 20 years or so?

This is a question I ask myself all the time. I look at the world we live in today, and we are destroying a perfect place with so many opportunities in it. It makes me so sad to see how we are killing our world bit by bit when it is our job to keep it stable. It worry's me to think that one day the world wil give up on us and what is even scarier is that it will happen sooner than usual because we are breaking it.

When I think of this event happening it always brings me to the film WALL-E. This is very much about the effects of our world and what will happen if we dont fix it. I think this a good way to send out a message to all ages, but not scaring them at the same time. When I watched this film and saw what they made the earth look like, it really surprised me to see that this is what our real world may look like one day.

I thought it was such a shame that no one really tries hard to make things right, it's like they almost don't care. I find it interesting to see how in the film all the humans go up to space. I think what it would be like to go up there and live that life. I sometimes think it would be cool but then I think we would go no where, we couldn't advance anymore, we would be stuck. How could this be a good thing I wonder? But there is always hope because some people do try to make a difference were we live.

A company called Peta are trying to help by setting up an organization to go vegetarian. They say that while saving energy and using safe cars helps, going veg is the best way to do it. We should do this because the meat we use holds toxins and they let them of into the air which casses problems.
The official handbook for Live Earth, the anti-global warming concerts that Al Gore helped organize, says that not eating meat is the 'single most effective thing you can do' to reduce your climate change impact. They have said that Carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide together cause the vast majority of global warming. With us raising animals for food it cause one of the largest source of Carbon dioxide, and that holds both methane and nitrous oxide.
Although this may be hard to go veg, it is the best way, and it's healthy. I would say that's a pretty easy task, wouldn't you? But if you don't want to give up your beloved meat, there are many other ways to save the world, we have just got to keep going, and see were life takes us.

In all I think life will be good and bad, everyone says that the world is going to end in 2012, and I know it will one day but not for a very long time, things will slowly start to get out of control, but you never know, technology these days is advancing rapidly, so we might be able to help somehow.  Though for now we don't have things like that so I think we should start taking care of the world, not trashing and killing it. People don't understand the mess they are making by doing this.

I believe it is our job to clean up this world, it has been given to us to protect and look after. We are so grateful for what we have and no one appreciates it, and if we dont act now it may be too late. We can't stop disasters from happening, but we can at least control our environment. We could not use so much electricity, or we could recycle more often, there are loads of thing we can do to help, and there not even hard! My only explanation is that people are selfish and lazy, they dont care.
Well I do care and I know there are some other people in the world who do too, I believe that we should keep our environment safe and healthy because it is the only one we have got, and we can't loose it yet.

Colours of the Rainbow

We have a world here with all kinds of wonderful people. Some of them feel like they dont belong and some of them are the people who try to fit in with a group because they feel like outcasts. This especially happens in Middle School. I feel that the people who feel like this are very underestimated and I think it is time to look at some of these people and see the wonderful things about them. There are children in the world today who don't help this by making them feel bad about themselves or sometimes they are just plain mean. I believe that everyone should be noticed and I think the people that feel this way need to know that they are amazing.

I know a girl at one of my schools who feels very insecure about herself. This really makes me sad  because she is great and one of the only friends I have. She gets bulled quite a lot and is always saying she is fat or ugly, when see is really not. I think that she is wrapped up in the whole popularity thing which makes her feel unimportant. I feel sorry for her because she dosent have to live this way, and I always tell her what she is and try to make her feel better, but I think that we need to help these kids because they need to know that they are wonderful and worth everything.

There is a website called BullyingUk.This helps people and gives advise to people with problems. Websites with this are very important because everyone needs a little pick-my-up sometimes and I think this website shows and gives people with these problem hope, it makes them think positively because there is always a solution for everything, they just have to see it.

I think we need to fight for the victims of bulling, because at the end of the day this is where it all started.  I mostly think this has something to do with teenage girls and growing up but it is a problem because things like this can get out of hand and sometimes very dangerous.

In 6th grade we learned about cyber-bulling and what it does to people. We where hearing storys of kids committing suicide, and I definitely don't want that to happen to any of my friends, so I think that it is our job to try and stop bulling, and look after the people that need it. My friend needs it and I am sure many others do. I don't want to see anyone getting hurt. I think that the best thing to do would be to keep any eye on the people that could be mean.

But through all this I believe that there is a chance we can stop this altogether if everyone works together. It may be hard but I think that this is important, and yes I know that it is not a world crisis or anything drastically disastrous, but think about the parents of those kids who killed themselves think about the kids in school who are miserable. We only live once and I think that everyone should have a life full on happiness and laughter not depression and disappointment. To me making people happy is worth fighting for because everyone is special and we need to see that in people, because everyone is unique and different which isn't a bad thing, so really, my message is that we just need to see the colour inside them.

Oliver Manjon: Over 40 operations and still going strong

My cousin Oliver has an extremely rare disease called  Chromosomal Abnormality. Scientists don't  have a name for it because they haven't seen anything like it before, but this is what it is known as. Although his life is hard, he continues to fight for his life. He is the only one in the world with it as far as anyone knows, and he is fighting for his life everyday going through numerous operations at only the age of 16, being bulling at school, and having self confidence issues.  He was born with distorted fingers of which his thumb had to be switched with his only tow because one was  bigger than the other. He has a little pixie foot, and his other leg had to be cut off. Most of his time he sits in his wheelchair, but he does have a prosthetic leg.

A couple of years back Oliver and his family where staying in London with some friends. It was the day before Christmas, and Oliver wasn't feeling well at all. A few hours later Ali, his mum, found him coughing up blood, so they rushed him to the hospital. There it was a long wait during his operation. They had found out that one of his kidneys was shriveled up and they had to remove it. He was very close to dying, but through a lot of pain and worry, he was OK. My mum and I where all the way in Malaysia, and we where very worried too because we didn't know what happened. All we knew was that he was in hospital. Eventually he got to go home and he was back to normal. He is very strong, so he can heal very fast, which is good. When I go to the UK now and stay with Oliver and Ali he seems very alone and sad. All he does is play video games. He goes to school, but he doesn't have many friends, so I think it is nice when we come and stay.

He is very insecure about himself, one time we where at the swimming pool and a bunch of girls where laughing at him because he has distorted fingers and feet, I went over to them and asked them what they where laughing about, and they just stood there blank faced and I told them just because he looked different didn't mean he was, (well, besides him being a typical teenager boy ) he was perfectly normal. I found this kind of funny because he is actually a fantastic swimmer, he was going to do the 2012 Paralympics, but because of his kidney operation he couldn't do it for a while. But anyway the girls just walked of as if they didn't understand what I was saying to them, to me that was unacceptable, and I could tell it hurt Oliver a bit, but I always tell him that he should never listin to what anyone says about you, because I know and you know you are strong enough to rise above them and ignore it.

I think it is important to fight for Oliver because I don't think people should get away with being mean to him and I hope that one day doctors will be able to give him proper hands and feet, I want him to live a normal life, but unfortunately, unless there is some sort of miracle we cant do much right now. But on the bright side, at 15 years old and over 40 operations in his life so far, he is still going strong.

Oliver tells me when he is older he wants to be a doctor because his doctors have inspired him, well with his enthusiasm and positive thinking, he has inspired me. Without people like him in our world it would be full of greedy mean people, and I know I can't live in a place like that. Oliver has lots of family who love and support him and it would be devastating if anything happend to him, so of corse we will all fight for him till the end.

I found Oliver inspiring because he will never give up, he never feels sorry for himself, he never complains when he has to have an operation and he just lives life to the fullest. I love him and I know he will be OK growing up. He is an amazing person and he is one of the most inspiring people in my life.

Street Lights (Found Poem)

These days the streets
are infected, our genration
has absolutely been chopped
down like a rain forest
People do whatever they want
what has happend to our world.
I see people attaching themselves
but Iv'e noticed, there are people
who believe strongly to say what you believe
some people have noting to say
some people disguise themselves
some are detemind to fight
and some ask to question authority
from what I have heard
some declare others to join them
People say I have wisdom
but, you have to speak with it too
Kids would say it was uncool to fight
and thats a clever sort of thing to say
So I challenge you
I am inviting you to join me.

This is a poem where I got words from another poem and made it into my own. It is all about how our world is so damaged today, and that some people are not making it any better. But then there is that little ray of hope, it is where there are people who what to make a difference and stop war and pain. It is telling the reader the strength of what one person can do it they really try, it is the comparison between good and evil. My poem shows what is worth fighting for because it is trying to convince the reder to "join the fight."

Rani Hong- Caring for Others

A couple of years after India won freedom and independence form Great Britain, a 7 year old girl named Rani Hong was taken from her family. She lived in a poor village in southern India, but when her father was to sick to support her large family, a woman from her village made an offer to Rani's parents saying that Rani would be looked after and fed well. Her mother only excepted because she was told that she could visit her every day, this was a lie. When her mother went round to the women's house one day, Rani was gone. The supposedly trustworthy woman had sold Rani Hong to a slave trader, she was 7 years old at this time.

For 8 months she stayed with her owner, Paul, she quotes "every night I cried and cried for my mum, but she didn't come." Today she tells us that she felt like her identity had been taken from her. She said that she remembers the feelings of pain, loneliness and isolation. After 8 months with Paul, she was sold to another slave trader, here she got daily beatings, torture and starvation she quotes "My 7 year old body shut down, I would never look up, I would not talk, I was traumatized. I have blocked out the most violant happenings in my life." She says felt like she wanted to die.

When she was 8 years old the man she had been with for 1 year sold her for international illegal adoption. This she realizes was one of the best days of her life. She was adopted into America at 8 years old. She loved her adoptive mother with all her heart, Rani quotes that her mother said " I am going to feed you every morning, and I wil take care of you." This to Rani is very special because she cant remember a life with love and warmth in it. In this time she began to heal and she learned to love.

21 years later she went back to India to find her real mother, Soon she was back in the arms of the woman she had been dreaming about, she and her mother where reunited.
Today she travels the world helping victims of trafficking, she has set up a foundation called The Tronie Foundation, this helps raise money for people in need and it gives people hope.

Rani Hong fought for freedom, she had nothing but to hope that she would live a normal life one day, she fights for peoples freedom and will continue to do that for the rest of her life. Freedom is worth fighting for because in Rani's situation without it she wouldn't be here today, she saved herself and now she is saving others in every way posible. She inspires me because usually to men women at below them, so for Rani Hong to stand up and make a stop to slavery is wonderful, she has made me think about what life would be if I where in her situation, and of corse I wouldn't like it, but nobody would, would they? She is making a huge difference in the would and I know other people, not jut me appreciate that

Today Rani Hong is an inspiration all over the world, She gives us hope and security.  People fly her all over the world to give speeches and she helps people who have been in the slave industries.Through her actions she has saved many people all over the world, She gave people a reason to live, she is showing us that everyone can help and anyone can make a difference. Even you.

Sophie's World

My perfect world would first and formost be a peaceful harmonious place where people could live side by side without conflict, anger or war. There would be no racism, religious presidium and the citizens of my world would not no hunger, pain or poverty, this of corse is an idealistic view. We would still need government and policing to keep order, but it must be a corrupt free society, we would have to maintain a sensible population growth, and therefor I would strongly recommend that families where encouraged to not produce to may children.

The world we live in today is unsustainable, the population growth is growing so rapidly that mankind can not provide for many humans born on this planat. The world is becoming more and more a planat tof haves and the have nots, it is tragic the watch the starving people of Africa, and the poverty in many third world countries. Sadly these are the countries of the world that have the highest population growth.

So my perfect world would be a place of education because I believe education is the key to mankind, with education comes humility, understanding and responsibility and respect for fellow man. This is my perfect world, but sadly I think this will never be, but one thing all man has in common is hope.

Hunger Games Assessment!

Hunger games project assessment

My project is all about style and feelings.

The first one I made a fashion book with Diksha, in this book we made fashions on what we thought the people wore in Panam and the Capitol. We also put quotes at the bottom of the page saying what they wore. This was very fun for me and probably my favorite one to work on. I choose this because, when I read the book it explained how different the capitol clothes are, and how important fashion and looks are to them, when the people from the Seams have nothing, and fashion is the last thing on there mind. I also did this because it explained how the people wore wild clothes because it made a statement of there personality, and also got people talking, and for people in the games this was an advantage because beauty would get you sponsors.

This project is a little follow on of the fashion book, it is a little like a fashion magazine, with Katniss on it, Cinna is promoting her and his clothes by selling them as well. I did this because it shows how Katniss is so popular and so are the games, and how important it is to the public.

This painting symbolizes how much Katniss misses her father, and when Madge gave Katniss this pin, it made me think that Madge might be worried for Katniss. But it wasn’t just worry, I think it was to do with friendship and protection as well. It makes you think of why the pin was so comforting to Katniss during the games.

My last piece is a DVD, it is about the interview of the games. I think it was very good that I did this, because it shows you an idea of what the games looked like, and how it was for the kids. I hope it is funny and helpful for the people who watch it.
